Role Overview

We are looking for an Engineering Manager (Backend) to lead the backend teams responsible for building and operating the core services behind VieON — one of Vietnam’s largest OTT streaming platforms. You'll help architect, deliver, and evolve systems that power video playback, content management, payments, personalization, and device integrations.

This role blends technical leadership with people management — driving architecture, performance, and engineering culture while mentoring and growing high-performing backend teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend engineering efforts in developing scalable microservices that serve millions of users across SmartTV, mobile, and web platforms.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, QA, and Frontend teams to deliver features from concept to production efficiently and reliably.
• Oversee architecture reviews, coding standards, observability, CI/CD pipelines, and performance optimization.
• Own and evolve core backend systems including:
• Content Management System (CMS)
• Video Playback APIs, DRM integration
• Subscription & Payment Services
• A/B Testing and Configuration Platforms
• Recommendation & Personalization APIs
• Build and grow a high-impact engineering team through recruiting, mentoring, and performance coaching.
• Drive process improvements to standardize the software development lifecycle and ensure velocity and quality.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend software development experience, with 2+ years in a management role.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages: Golang, Java, Node.js, or Python.
• Strong grasp of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, REST/gRPC APIs, and message queues (e.g., Kafka).
• Experience operating large-scale systems (e.g., >1M MAU, >1M CCU).
• Solid understanding of cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), Kubernetes, containerization, and CI/CD automation.

Leadership

• Proven track record of hiring, managing, and retaining high-performing engineers.
• Product-minded and highly collaborative with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, QA).
• Capable of managing delivery timelines, resource allocation, and quality assurance.

Nice to Have

• Experience in media, OTT, or streaming platforms.
• Familiarity with DRM, video streaming protocols, or transcoding pipelines.
• Background in building internal developer platforms, observability stacks, or feature flag/config platforms.
